July Monthly Luncheon - "Downhole Data Acquisition Systems"
|
With increasing horizontal departure and complexity of the well trajectory, data obtained from surface sensors in
most cases cannot accurately describe the downhole environment and operating condition of the BHA. Frequently drillers are faced with situations of low drilling efficiency, excessive wear BHA wear, catastrophic failures of connections, and short life of electronic MWD components. The associated remedial cost, as well as the impact on the actual well construction, can significantly impair the economics for the operator.
Starting with additional accelerometer sensors on MWD strings the industry has developed a selection of downhole dynamic data tools that have the ability to measure an array of environmental and operating data that can be obtained from memory or in real time transmitted to the surface. These data sets have proven to be invaluable to improve drilling efficiency and assist in the root cause analysis of unforeseen events.
In order to provide a picture of the current state of the technology, its application, and the interpretation of the data, the IADD has dedicated its July 25th luncheon to invite OEM’s, Service Providers, and Operators to share their technology and experiences with the downhole data acquisition technology.
This can be considered as a follow-up event of the MWD technology review in June and is another great event to share lessons learned, provide your input into the discussion, and to capitalize on a great learning opportunity for those new to the technology and or the industry. We are looking forward to seeing you on July 25th.

Mud Motor Training Course
|
We're excited to partner with Dr. Robello Samuel to present another in-person mud motor course training session.
Positive displacement motors commonly called Mud motor, a simple but elegant machine that has become an integral part of the BHA specially when drilling shale wells. Even though tremendous advancements have been made but the challenges remain. The two-day workshop on mud motors covers the concepts, performance, advancements, future designs and how to use and when to use at difficult times. The workshop covers a mud motor manufacturing
unit visit and is targeted for engineers, mud motor experts and manufacturers.
Please note that event price includes Positive Displacement Motor: Theory and Applications color textbook (450 pages) by Dr. Robello Samuel (Author).

Global demand for oil is likely to rise at moderate levels through 2030, and the US will lead global oil production during that time, according to Helen Currie, ConocoPhillips' chief economist. Domestic production growth will lead to higher crude exports, she says, despite initial constrictions during infrastructure development phases...

We saw the deployment of remote directional drilling operations grow dramatically in 2015. That was obviously driven by the drop in oil prices. Everyone was tightening their belts, especially service companies. Directional drilling was no exception, and it's clear that remote directional drilling had one big advantage over the traditional 4-man DD/MWD crew: it's much more cost effective...
