June Monthly Luncheon - "MWD with Displays"
|
Measurement While Drilling represents one of the core competencies the directional drilling industry must master to effectively and
efficiently construct oil and gas wells. The ever increasing complexity of downhole completions which involves 3d back build followed by simultaneous build and turn sections, multi well pad layouts, and “wine rack” completion designs continue to increase the demand for more accurate sensors, faster data transmissions, and incremental data acquisition capability to drive drilling optimization.
Environmental demands imposed from high bottom hole temperature, elevated vibration and shock levels, and the use of LCM material for wellbore conditioning has driven the demand for “ruggedized” downhole measurement solutions.
In order to provide a comprehensive picture of the current technology as well as to provide a forum for the discussion of the way forward, the Houston IADD has invited manufacturers, service providers and operators to share their respective technology and viewpoints during our extended Luncheon on June 27th at the Landry’s – Woodlands location. The event is scheduled from 10:00 to 16:00 followed by a social hour with the following taking
place:
- Exhibition of full MWD systems in the Parking Lot area.
- Display of single components in the covered patio section.
- Presentations in the lunchroom
- Panel discussions
This event probably represents the most comprehensive MWD technology review in the Houston area this year and is another great event to share lessons learned, provide your input into the discussion, and to capitalize on a great learning opportunity for those new to the technology and or the industry. We are looking forward to seeing you on June 27th.

Drilling Podcast with Fred Dupriest, A&M
|
Message from Fred Dupriest:
On Friday, May 31st, I was on David Gibson's new VDoorLockSmith podcast. This was
a live podcast with Q&A with the audience via messaging and was about an hour long.
It was also recorded for viewing later.
This is the only podcast I'm aware of that focuses on Drilling and David is building the
content with his own research, as well as weekly interviews like mine. I like what he's
trying to do and I plan to encourage others to follow him and get involved in the
content. Some of you are former students who I know are committed to moving the
industry forward, and many of you would also be great contributors to the site yourself.
Please share the link if you think this is headed in the right direction.
While many rig crews, service hands and engineers will not participate in sites
sponsored by the professional societies, they might be more attracted to this so that we
have another positive influence in moving the industry forward.
A large number of people told me they could not login due to the technical problems
Linkedin was having. In case you missed it or could not login, you can access it now at
the sites below.
I appreciate the work all of you are doing to move the industry forward.
