It is amazing what a difference one month can make. In 30 days, the whole world let alone our industry has turned upside down. Last month I was talking about the plans that we have for the spring. This month, everyone is just trying to hang on.
We have pivoted quickly in that we are moving to online or virtual meetings. We moved our Mud Motor training course to a live webinar, thanks to Dr. Samuel for the quick response. We even did a virtual shop tour with Bico. April will be our first virtual meeting on tubulars and design, with other courses and meetings scheduled for the coming months.
There is no way to sugarcoat what is going on, this is a cataclysmic shift in our world and our industry. There is going to be pain throughout as we react to shifts on almost a daily basis. We must adapt and pull together to help our industry survive and thrive.
What can we do? Necessity is the mother of invention. When the industry turned down in 2014, we came up with ways to be better. Wells today are being drilled in 1/3 of the time that they took then. Tools have gotten better and stronger. We must do even better this time. Drilling has the biggest impact on how a well will produce. Better well quality; better
and more consistent well placement; improvements in work processes and timely decision making can all have a significant impact on the production of a well. We must seize the challenge and help our industry produce.
I want IADD to take the lead and help to discover and define the direction and path that we follow. We need to seize the moment even in the midst of these difficulties and continue to help our world and industry recover. Everyone stay safe and healthy! This too shall pass!
