In 2018,
we have expanded our vision of our events and our staff. In a normal year, we typically plan on providing 10 Lunch and Learn events, with 2 to 3 of them being Extended Luncheons. However, this year we were able to provide 10 Extended Luncheons, and we even had the opportunity to coordinate a “Spring Social” event that was attended by well over 200 people! We’ve expanded our staff by almost double to provide fresh eyes for events and the additional hands to get it done. In
2019, we plan to expand our vision even further. We’ve planned our luncheons for 2019 well in advance so you can easily note the ones you would like to attend. We will be hosting another Spring Social, which was one of our most popular events in 2018, and we’ve even added in a few surprises for you to keep things fresh. We will reveal more about these surprises as we get closer to the
events. Don't miss out on anything coming up by visiting our website at https://www.iadd-intl.org/events.
Meet the Houston Chapter of IADD Board of Directors
|
In this edition of our newsletter we would like to highlight two more of the dedicated and highly involved members of our Board of
Directors. In future issues, we will introduce you to the people in the background who work each day to make your experience with IADD a positive one. |
Mark Boyes - Mark is currently the VP of Strategic Sales for National Oilwell Varco- Wellbore Technologies. With more than 30+
yrs. of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, he has extensive experience in directional and horizontal application through Rocky Mtn, Mid Co, and Texas.
He has excelled in many leadership roles throughout his career from Area Operations, Regional
Operations, Geo Business Development and Executive Sales in North America with Baker Hughes. He has been involved with a number of technology deployment within North America including motors and RSS. |
Shelly Cory - Shelly Cory is currently the Global Product Manager for Baker Hughes, a GE Company. She received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M. Since joining Baker Hughes in 2000, she has worked across multiple product lines, including drill bits, chemicals, pumps and pressure pumping, in various functional roles, from manufacturing, marketing, sales, commercial, IT, application engineering,

October Monthly Luncheon - "Case Study on Rotary Steerables"
|
The application of Rotary Steerable
Systems (RSS) has developed to a point where the successful completion of long reach horizontal wells (10000 ft and above) require the deployment of an auto-steering drilling system. Improved wellbore quality and a reduction in torque and drag have enabled operators to continue to extend the horizontal pay zone of their production wells. Historically the development of RSS has been the domain of large service
companies and a number of operators that were able to deploy the financial and technical resources to generate technical solutions that represent the available portfolio today. As the energy exploration and development activity improves, also the demand for a wider range of available RSS systems has increased to provide technically robust and financially attractive solutions to operators ranging from small
independents to multi nationals. Therefore, some smaller directional drilling service providers and equipment manufacturers have started their own RSS development projects, with a selection of them having completed the initial test phase to verify the applicability and reliability of their system for horizontal drilling applications. On Oct. 25th, the IADD is inviting those Rotary Steerable providers that are in the process of transitioning their technology from the engineering to the commercial stage to share their technology and some of the initial field test results they have obtained so far.

We welcome you to join us as we continue with our traditional full 10 course Clay Shoot competition. There will be great prizes &
door prizes. We will have our TTS Sporting Clays event this year on December 7, 2018 at the Blackwood Gun Club in Conroe. Their address is 11400 FM 2854 Rd, Conroe, TX 77304. This IADD tournament promotes friendly competition, fellowship, and clay skills of our participants. So whether you are
experienced or have never shot at all, come out and give it a try. Lunch will be provided. Refreshments available throughout the day. This year we have a few additional activities for the Shoot. They include: Flurries, Mulligans, Silent Auction and our new Historical Markers – OIL FIELD STYLE What are
Historical Markers OIL FIELD STYLE? We will have little known facts about the oilfield, in particular, Directional Drilling. EXAMPLE: What was the deepest oil well drilled before 2000? ANSWER: Kola Superdeep Borehole,”
a 1989 experimental well drilled in the Soviet Union. It reached 40,230 feet deep. Do you have some historical oilfield facts to share with IADD?. If your Historical Fact is used at the Clay Shoot you will receive a gift from IADD. Send your Historical Facts to info@iadd-intl.org and join in on the fun.
Featured International Event: Annual Technology Forum featuring Mud Motors
|
Four years ago, the IADD hosted its first Annual Technology Forum in Bastrop, Texas, featuring mud motors.
Since that event, the industry has gone through numerous changes, but what hasn’t changed is the backbone, perseverance and can-do attitude of the directional industry. We’re seeing stronger, more powerful power sections; longer, more demanding laterals; greater ROP demands; and the need for more cost-effective drilling. All of these have shaped the state of the industry today. Where do we go from here? Will the rotary steerable finally supplant the mud motor? Will longer lateral sections outstrip the ability for a motor to steer? Are there new developments that will change how we drill with motors? Join us at the 2018 Annual Technology Forum, featuring mud motors, where you’ll hear from leading experts in this area as we discuss the
above questions, as well as many other subjects. Prior to the forum, we will host a one-day training course on the fundamentals of mud motors, taught by Dr. Robello Samuel. To view a message from our chairperson, Tim Barnard, click here.
