Welcome to the first edition of the Houston Chapter of IADD newsletter. We will provide you the latest information
on events coming up sponsored by IADD Houston, items of interest for our Houston members, and much more.
Meet the Houston Chapter of IADD Board of Directors
|
In this edition of our newsletter we would like to highlight two of the dedicated and highly involved members of our Board of
Directors. In future issues we will introduce you to the people in the background who work each day to make your experience with IADD a positive one. |
Roland Illerhaus - Roland is the Vice President of Operations & Technology for Integrity Directional Services. He has authored and
co-authored a number of SPE papers and owns several patents. Roland is a Mechanical Engineer and a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. He is an active member of IADD, IADC, and SPE. We would like to thank Roland for an exceptional year as our Executive Director of the Houston Board. His efficiency and drive expanded the reach of our Chapter and beyond. Excellent job sir. |
Mike Baraniak - Mike was educated in the UK studying Mechanical & Electrical engineering. became Halliburton Sperry Technical Directional Drilling Advisor based in the Permian Basin and after taking early retirement from Halliburton after 18 years of services, joined Tomax Anti Stick Slip technology as the
Permian Operations Manager.
Mike is also an active member of the AADE and was also on the committee for the Permian |
September Monthly Luncheon - "The Business of Directional Drilling"
|
With the ever-increasing demand to increase the
efficiency of hydrocarbon production, operators are faced with the task to maximize the reservoir productivity. As the complexity of wellbore construction and associated demands for high tech completions produce substantial challenges that require the deployment of innovative technologies and procedures.Operators, service providers, and product manufacturers continuously cooperate to identify, develop, test, and deploy the systems that are suited
to provide increased wellbore placement accuracy and quality to drill curves with consistent build rates and to extend the horizontal length of the production zone. In order to be able to provide operators with capable solutions in a timely manner, it is vital for the industry to understand where the market is going, and what demands customers will put on the service industry and equipment manufacturers in order to successfully reach their
drilling and completion objective. In order to provide a forum to share what it will take in the future to be successful, the IADD has dedicated it’s September 27th luncheon where a number of operators have the opportunity to share their respective vision. The subjects that will be discussed may include the following: Growth areas, activity levels, future rig count. Number of wells per pad, wellbore spacing, formations, horizontal length. Engineering requirements such as well plans, static and dynamic BHA analyses, wellbore quality, survey accuracy, software capability. MWD
system capability like Real-time measurements (Inc, Azi, Vibe etc.), Azi-Gamma, Resistivity, Data rate. Motor capability Rotary Steerable Options Competency of Directional Drillers, MWD Operators, and Engineering support. Reporting
Sponsorsorship Opportunities Sponsor tables are available for $500. Be there, be seen. For more information, please contact us here.

Featured International Event: Annual Technology Forum featuring Mud Motors
|
Four years ago, the IADD hosted its first Annual Technology Forum in Bastrop, Texas, featuring mud
motors. Since that event, the industry has gone through numerous changes, but what hasn’t changed is the backbone, perseverance and can-do attitude of the directional industry. We’re seeing stronger, more powerful power sections; longer, more demanding laterals; greater ROP demands; and the need for more cost-effective drilling. All of these have
shaped the state of the industry today. Where do we go from here? Will the rotary steerable finally supplant the mud motor? Will longer lateral sections outstrip the ability for a motor to steer? Are there new developments that will change how we drill with motors? Join us at the 2018 Annual Technology Forum, featuring mud motors, where you’ll hear from leading experts in this area as we discuss the above questions, as well as many other subjects. Prior to the forum, we will host a one-day training course on the fundamentals of mud motors, taught by Dr. Robello Samuel. MUD MOTOR COURSE DETAILS - Wednesday, October 31, 2018, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Location TBD
- Members: $250; Nonmembers: $295; includes the course, lunch and the Positive Displacement Motor:
Theory and Applications color textbook (435 pages) by Dr. Robello Samuel (Author)
ANNUAL TECHNOLOGY FORUM DETAILS - Thursday, November 1, 2018, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Permian Basin continues to drive US shale production growth
|
US shale oil production is predicted to climb by 79,000 barrels per day to 7.6 million barrels per day in October, fueled by a projected increase of 31,000 barrels per day in output from the Permian Basin, according to the Energy Information Administration. In addition, US shale gas production is expected to hit a record 73.1 billion cubic feet per day next month...

We welcome you to join us as we continue with our traditional
full 10 course Clay Shoot competition. There will be great prizes & door prizes. We will have our TTS Sporting Clays event this year on December 7, 2018 at the Blackwood Gun Club in Conroe. Their address is 11400 FM 2854 Rd, Conroe, TX 77304. This IADD tournament promotes friendly competition,
fellowship, and clay skills of our participants. So whether you are experienced or have never shot at all, come out and give it a try. Lunch will be provided. Refreshments available throughout the day. This year we have a few additional activities for the Shoot. They include: Flurries,
Mulligans, Silent Auction and our new Historical Markers – OIL FIELD STYLE What are Historical Markers OIL FIELD STYLE? We will have little known facts about the oilfield, in particular, Directional Drilling. EXAMPLE: What was the deepest oil well drilled before 2000? ANSWER: Kola Superdeep Borehole,” a 1989 experimental well drilled in the Soviet Union. It reached 40,230 feet deep. Do you have some historical oilfield facts to share with IADD?. If your Historical Fact is used at the Clay Shoot you will receive a gift from IADD. Send your Historical Facts to info@iadd-intl.org and join in on the fun. |
