Our May luncheon subject will concentrate on percussion drilling and motor technology for long reach horizontal wells. Percussion drilling offers another step level reduction of MSE compared to pure rotary type drilling.
Doc Gunther, from RIVAL Downhole Tools, will be presenting the drilling tool technology that is involved and application conditions that are key to successfully completing the drilling objectives. Favorable ranges for mechanical rock parameters, mud properties, and operating parameters will be discussed. Although not new to the industry, percussion drilling is not known as widely as it should be. During the second part
of Doc's presentation, Doc will share Rival’s technology for horizontal drilling motors suited for long reach laterals in combination with rotary steerable tools. Following Doc’s presentation, we will have a 30-45 minute discussion.
This is an opportunity for professionals in the industry to get an update on a not-so-common subject and to share your experience and viewpoints. Please join us on May 24th at Landry’s in The Woodlands at 11:00 AM for another exciting event that you don’t
want to miss.

Donations Requested
Over the years, the IADD has partnered with Operation Military Embrace, Inc., (OME)—a Texas-based
tax-exempt/non-profit 501(c)(3) military support organization that’s helps America’s seriously injured and ill Warriors and their families in their time of need—through the donation of cash and household items (toys, kitchen items, linens, etc.).
This year, we’d like to invite attendees to our Houston chapter luncheons to bring items (clothes, gift cards, food items, etc.), which will then be given to wounded service members at Camp Hope (Houston campus for the PTSD Foundation), as well as other private and VA facilities throughout the year.
For a list of what is needed, click here. For information on OME, go to http://www.operationmilitaryembrace.com/.
