Targeted Technology Series 2018: Geosteering Solutions Forum and Golf Tournament |
As the industry has moved from drilling primarily vertical wells to horizontal,
the ability to steer, navigate and stay in the target reservoir zone has become more important. The need to understand the reservoir and its most prolific zones has also increased. While geosteering capabilities have improved over the years, they have often created scenarios that put them at odds with conventional drilling objectives. Join us at the IADD Targeted Technology Series, featuring geosteering solutions,
where we’ll have a constructive dialogue about what can be done to satisfy both camps as attendees will hear from presenters on how we can identify and discuss these sometimes-conflicting criteria. An industry networking charity golf event will follow the forum. Whether you choose to attend either the forum or golf, or both, we look forward to seeing you on May 21! WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME? - Hear from industry leaders and geosteering experts through a series of panel presentations that will discuss:
- Operator needs
- Drilling issues
- New technology
- Network with your coworkers, clients and industry colleagues over 18 holes of golf
EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE - Forum co-chair: Greg O’Donnell, Pioneer Natural Resources
- Forum
committee: Bill Lesso, Independent Drilling Advisor
- Forum committee: Marty Paulk, Disruptovate, LLC
- Golf tournament co-chair: Shelly Cory, Baker Hughes, a GE Company
- Golf tournament committee: Alan Tannehill,

IADD Houston Chapter News |
The IADD completed another two exciting events during April with our Spring Social held at Landry’s in
The Woodlands. We had the opportunity to provide a large amount of technical content through exhibiting a number of rotary steerable systems. D-Tech, Terra Vici, Extreme, Double Barrel, Scout Downhole, and NOV had set up their RSS systems, which provided a great opportunity for the participants to get a comprehensive overview of both the “push the bit” and “point the bit” technologies. W-Technology also displayed their oilfield connector designs. The event was well attended with over 200
industry professionals taking the opportunity to link up. At this point, we would like to express our thanks to the exhibitors, sponsors, as well as the staff from the IADD and Landry’s who helped to make this event a success. Our April Monthly Luncheon took place at Southwestern Energy on April 26th. Anders Storaune from SWN hosted the luncheon. H&P and Precision shared how their surface control systems help to optimize
operating parameters to maximize drilling performance. Over 50 people attended and participated in a great discussion about where the technology is and where the biggest opportunities are for future developments. We would like to express our appreciation to the presenters, and the respective organizations who supported their efforts. We also would like to give a special thank you to Southwestern Energy for providing the facility for the meeting. May will be another busy month with our Golf event, combined with a technical session focused on Geosteering on May 21st, at the Augusta Pines Golf Club. Please sign up on our website at: https://www.iadd-intl.org/events/87/. The May Monthly Luncheon will be held at Landry’s on May 24th with a presentation by Doc Gunther from Ashmin. Doc’s presentation will discuss high
powered motor technology and provide technical insight into percussion drilling. More exciting events are planned for June and July, please refer to updates on the IADD website. |
Our May luncheon subject will concentrate on percussion drilling and motor technology for long reach horizontal wells. Percussion drilling offers another step level reduction of MSE compared to pure rotary type drilling.Doc Gunther, from RIVAL Downhole Tools, will be presenting the drilling tool technology that is involved and application conditions that are key to successfully completing the drilling objectives. Favorable
ranges for mechanical rock parameters, mud properties, and operating parameters will be discussed. Although not new to the industry, percussion drilling is not known as widely as it should be. During the second part of Doc's presentation, Doc will share Rival’s technology for horizontal drilling motors suited for long reach laterals in combination with rotary steerable tools. Following Doc’s presentation, we will have a 30-45 minute discussion. This is an opportunity for professionals in the industry to get an update on a not-so-common subject and to share your experience and viewpoints. Please join us on May 24th at Landry’s in The Woodlands at 11:00 AM for another exciting event that you don’t want to miss. |

Data Driven Drilling & Production Conference |
Jim Oberkircher, IADD's Director, has been invited to co-chair and organize a panel session at the Data Driven Drilling & Production Conference on May 30
- 31 in Houston. The Digital Drilling Optimization session will help provide: - Insight on how digital twin applications and modeling can improve well placement accuracy and minimize personnel exposure.
- Learn more about the latest improvements in visualization technologies and simulators.
- Review progress on autonomous drilling rig technology.
- The Journey ahead to Data Driven Cognitive Cyber Drilling Systems: Early Kick Detection using Adaptive Analytics with
Deconvoluted Downhole Accelerometer Data.
It's clear that if oil & gas companies want to grow market share and be competitive, they need to understand and implement data driven drilling and production methods... and fast. That's why the Data Driven Drilling & Production Conference is back for 2018 and bigger than ever. For more information on the conference, click here.
